How To Avoid The Risks After Eye Surgery?
Lasik eye surgery or Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis is the newest and most successful surgery that utilizes a laser to reshape the cornea and improve vision. LASIK is used as an alternative to wearing corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses by many patients nowadays. Lasik surgery is safe and recovery is quick. The surgery lasts for around 15 minutes in most cases and the patient’s experience improved vision immediately. However, in some cases, patients require 6 months to stabilize their vision
. Although, risks found after surgery are minimal, but patients are advised to take care of their eyes after surgery to avoid any complications later.
The following instructions are suggested to be followed by the patients after undergoing their eye surgery:
• Consult your doctor after the surgery to make sure that healing is done properly.
• The doctor may advise you to keep your eyes closed and relax them to avoid any pain. Once you wake up, you will notice improved vision.
• Do not rub or touch your eyes for at least one week as rubbing your eyes may cause irritation and cause complication to your eyes. Rubbing of eyes may damage the corneal flap which is already sensitive after the surgery.
• It is advisable to wear protective covering over the affected eye. You may be asked to wear dark shades or protective patch over the eye to avoid the risk of dust, air-borne germs infecting your eye.
• Your doctor may ask you to take some anti-inflammatory medicine or antibiotic for proper recovery of the eyes. It is important that the medication prescribed by the doctor be followed dutifully.
